New Year wishes

As Singapore welcomes 2014, everyone in Singapore has had the opportunity to write their New Year wishes on wishing spheres that are been floated on the waters at Marina Bay. Various shopping centres throughout Singapore have had wishing stations set up for the last month for people to write on the white beach balls their wishes for 2014 and their thanks for what the past year has brought. The 20,000 wishing balls that are floating on the waters of Marina Bay will form a backdrop to the estimated 300,000 people who will watch the fireworks on the Marina tonight.

Christmas at Gardens By the Bay

Gardens By The Bay has joined in the festive spirit and decorated the Flower Dome, in a display called "Christmas Sugar Mountain".
This display has been designed by an award-winning landscape designer, Kazuyuki Ishihara, a multiple gold medallist at the Chelsea Flower Show. Ishihara's display tells the story of the power of food to bridge the inequality in society.
The display features two characters - a pineapple boy called "Ananas" and a strawberry girl "Berry". Ananas and Berry live apart because of their different growing requirements but one day when they stumble upon a garden with a special mountain that provides for all their needs. In this magical garden, they build a home and live happily ever after. The display features many edible produce such as pumpkins, capsicums and tomatoes.
Also featured in the Flower Dome are Christmas trees created from Air-plants and Poinsettias as well as informational signs on the traditions of Christmas.

Christmas on A Great Street

Christmas is in full swing in Singapore and since mid November the 2.2 km stretch of Orchard Rd is decorated in Christmas lights and decorations that has made it become one of the 10 most popular Christmas decorations spots to visit in the world according to travel guides.
The colour theme this year is blue gems and sliver diamonds and they are totally new decorations from last year which were red and gold.
Each of the major shopping centres that line Orchard Rd also compete in a competition to be awarded for the best decorations outside their complexes.
The display certainly attracts large numbers of tourists and local families at night and the pavements are very crowded with people and the ice cream sandwich ( a block of ice cream between bread ! ) vendors are doing a brisk business.
